Zelda: A Link to the Past

Best in the series, IMO

Link to the Past is the only Zelda game that's come out in recent years, they've just polished it up and given it a new coat of paint every time. That's no bad thing--Zelda: A Link to the Past hit upon a game design that was fucking genius, and I love it. OoT is better, TP is good; MM and WW are more original, but they feel like tangents in the Zelda universe rather than true follow-ups.

I must now admit that I've never played any of the handheld Zelda games.

Not to mention that if you're saying Zelda games are the same because of story, then you don't appreciate what the games are about.

I've never played a Zelda game for it's storyline, but each one always has the best gameplay and puzzles that you're likely to find these days, that it more than makes up for it.

Give me 5 Zelda games with the same 'story' any day, rather than 5 JRPGs with the same 'story', gameplay and fan-base.

What does /v/ think of Final Fantasy XII?

Personally, I think it's a piece of shit. There's basically NO character development, the story is the same rehashed "EPIC WAR, EMPIRE VS REBELLION" crap we've all seen/heard/read over and over again. The music...well, it doesn't meet the usual Square-Enix standard. I mean, FFX sucked, but at LEAST the soundtrack was pretty. Don't even get me started on the fighting, if you can even call it that. You basically WATCH your characters fight the enemies, with as little interaction (sometimes none) as possible. Character development is decent early on; at the beginning of the game, you'll want someone healing, other people attacking and shit. In the long run, however, it's nothing special. Everyone will end up having the same moves, special techniques (or technicks, as the game calls them), and magic (magick in the game's terminology).

The graphics are pretty, though.

No. Just no.

FF12 just didn't do anything for me. I mean I really liked the graphics, and it had a fantastic beginning--but the game just lost its momentum so quick.

FFX was great until the game became a series of boss fights, one right after another. Seriously, what the hell.

I never beat FF9; just wasn't my sort of game. I never beat FF8; it was far too damn silly.

FF7 I beat--the characters were each unique. When they spoke, they really felt like they were themselves. You could argue that the materia system allowed everybody to be similar, but it was a system of magic that was also integral to the story--I applaud it.

FF6 is on equal standing with 7 in my book. They were basically the same story but in a fantasy/cyberpunk setting.

did anyone actually like ffx-2? I got it when it came out and stoped playing it after about 20 minuets.
